I have always loved lamp posts. We sang about the "Old Lamp Lighter" when we were kids, read about them in the Narnia books, and watched them mixed in murder mystery movies. When I saw some glass products on sale at a local department store, I got the idea I could make one. It is easy, inexpensive, and so much fun to make! A friend used the term, "Have a fun crafternoon." I like that. If you love crafts and lamp posts, this one is for you!
I saw some goblets on sale, but I wanted one with some design on it. I found this one on the sale rack and painted it with black matte spray paint. The lid was from a candy dish. I painted the lid, but not the dish.
Here is a close up of the goblet after I painted it and the lid. You can see the beautiful design in the $1 goblet! The wind was really blowing so it was hard to get a good photo with the lid, but you can see it in the background if you look closely. I paint outside when I can, the fumes are flammable and not good for the lungs. We had plenty of ventilation today!
The next step was to glue the dish to the bottom of the goblet. E6000 glue works real well for this. I did not glue the lid. I wanted to be able to turn a tea light off and on that sets down inside the lamp post.
Here is the final lamp post. I wanted plenty of light for the photo so the little twinkly light did not show up. Here is a short video with the light turned on.
And here you have a beautiful but simple little lamp post for a decoration or night light in the home.
