Linen Coasters

I like fabric coasters. They just feel cozy. And if you can sew the possibilities are endless!! I like to use my machine but these could be sewn by hand too or even glued but I love to sew so I prefer that method.

I chose grey fabric so that they would transition to the winter months. I think the leaves are cute!

First I drew my pattern onto a piece of paper. I just wanted a basic leaf pattern to keep it easy when sewing.

I then cut my pattern out. Keep in mind when you sew this and turn it right side out it will be a bit smaller so take that into consideration when making your pattern.

I had these linen napkins lying around so they worked out good.

Place your pattern on and trace with a washable marker. I doubled the fabric so I only had to cut out 3 get a total of 6 leaves.

Fabric scissors are a must. If you craft on a regular basis and don’t have these run out and get you some.

Next cut 3 leaves out of felt.

Next stack your fabric. Place the right sides of the fabric together and then place the felt on top.

Sew all three layers together leaving about and inch and a half for turning right side out. Then sew your opening closed.

For the decorating stitching or quilting you could do this on the sewing machine but I used floss so it would stand out.

I used a large needle and hand stitches the floss on to create the leaf veins.

So there you have it. Pretty simple.

Wouldn’t these make a great gift, maybe “housewarming” gifts?!
