Perfect Wall Art for the Master Bedroom

We needed artwork over our bed. We live in earthquake country so mirror or anything heavy was out. I wanted art with meaning without being too soppy. One day while driving, I heard the Lifehouse song “you and me” and it got stuck in my head – I knew we had a winner!!
I started with multiple layers of stain and paint on a large 1/4" plywood.
I found some pretty handmade paper which I ripped and glued to the board with mod podge. Then covered it with another thin layer of white paint.
It was finally time for distressing. I went over the corners and the entire board with my sander.
I printed out the words "You" and "me" and traced and painted them with metallic red using an easy technique (check original blog post for details). I painted a (aff) wood ampersand cutout in silver and glued in between the two words! The paper had a touch of silver too and they go perfectly together!
I love the distressed edges of the artwork with all the layers of paint, stain and patterned paper showing through. It turned out perfect for the master bedroom. I love the touch of red that it adds to the entire room and the ampersand gives it a nice 3-dimensionality.
The Master bedroom is choke full of DIY projects from that headboard to the nightstands, dresser and a bunch of easy decor projects too! Take a look at it right here.
