Wooden Cake Stand From Scrap Wood
Even though this is a cake stand, I prefer to use it for vignettes.
This project isn't perfect but I think the small imperfections make it look aged.
I had some scrap pine. I like using pine because it's a soft wood and cuts quite easily with a jig saw. I'm sure you could purchase precut circles in a craft store or hardware store if you're not comfortable with a jig saw.
I used plates to trace my circles onto the pine scrap.
I go slowly with the jig saw for more accuracy. However, when you sand it you can get a smoother edge.
I had some scraps of table legs around from a previous project. Just play around with the pieces until you get the look you want.
I used gorilla glue to attach the pieces. You could certainly screw them together as well.
I picked up these button plugs at the hardware to give it a little character.
I attached the plugs with gorilla glue as well.
I then painted the stand with a chalk paint.
I then sanded it in places to give it a worn look. I'm quite happy with the outcome and look forward to changing up the displays with the season's. And the best thing is I only had to purchase the button plugs for $2.00. It really pays to hang on to scrap wood!
