Chicken Wire Picture Frame

I found an old screen door that was used for a dutch door so it was the perfect size and I loved the hardware on it! I first had to remove the screen which was quite easy. Since I was painting the frame white, I just needed to sand down the current paint job to make a smooth surface. Then I cleaned it up well using a vinegar and water solution.

Most will cut their piece of chicken wire bigger so it is easier to work with. I measured the piece of chicken wire to be 1/4 of an inch smaller than the frame since you stretch it when attaching it and I didn't want any excess to have to cut off. You can do it either way. I put on my gloves since the wire is sharp and using tin snips, I cut my piece of chicken wire.

1. Start at a corner and staple the chicken wire to the frame. Stretch the wire to get rid of any crinkles as you continue to staple the wire around the entire frame.

Once the wire is attached, cut pieces of felt to cover the edges of the wire so it doesn't scratch up the walls when you hang it. Using fabric glue, glue your strips on top of the wire. If you have excess chicken wire hanging over the sides of the frame, cut it off before adding the felt. I decided to hang a Family sign from the top of the frame. I used a scrap piece of wood I had, painted it white and stenciled the letters in black. I then stapled jute string to the back of the sign and stapled the other end of the jute to the back of the frame so it hung in front of the chicken wire.
