I received this broken washer from a friend who was going to throw it out due to missing pieces.

So I took it outside and started to clean it. Yuck, see all those fibers!

I had to get this wire brush and scraper to get all of the fibers out of the sides that had been there for many, many years.

Using this dust remover really helped remove all of the dust too! It got into the tight spaces that I couldn’t reach with the brush very well.

Then, I began disassembling one side of the piece in order to size the wood that I was going to put in the empty space. This proved to be very time consuming. That little old nail was really in there! I was also trying to be careful not to mare the wood.

Next, I cut down the wood to go in the space.

Unfortunately, I forgot to take pix of the next step, but I put 3 coats of chalkboard paint on the wood and then when it was good and dry, I took a piece of chalk and rubbed it all over the board and then wiped it off with a paper towel. This helps “season” the paint so you can write on it without leaving permanent chalk marks.

This is what I used!

The board on the top with the wording was split in half horizontally but I just pushed up the cross piece below it to make it tight. I also attached a piece of chalk to write whatever you wanted to on the board.

This turned out really cute I think. You can put any words or saying on it you would want. Recipes, notes, grocery list, menu for the week etc. But, this saying is one of my favorites!
