Vintage Corner Shelf Divided

When a good friend was helping to clean out her grandmothers house she found this vintage corner shelf and she thought of me. I have more than a few house plants, you might call it an obsession. Sometimes finding places to put those plants can be a challenge.

This great little wood corner shelf was a perfect place to put some of the plants. But it was so tall that it was unstable. Especially when heavy houseplants were put on the top shelves. I had to anchor it to the wall as it was. I really wanted to keep the shelf, but it wasn't working as it was, so I decided to divide it.
The shelf came apart in pieces so this was a very simple fix! All I had to do was take the middle spindles from the shelf and saw them in half.
I painted the spindles with my favorite bright chalk paint color "Treasure"
And I stained the platforms with Java Gel Stain
I'm so pleased with how it turned out!
Now I have two shorter, but much sturdier corner shelves for my plants!

I really admire your owl collection. Did you craft those yourself also? Love the whole display

How did you create those motifs on the newly painted shelves? Looks great.

This is very smart and cute. I have the same one and it was broken so I kept the shelves and some of the spindles. I want to make corner shelves, but the shelves aren't fitting in all the way any suggestions on how to secure in place? Thanks

    • I love teal too Lisa! It never goes out of style as long as you keep loving it, right? :)

Hi Kelli, I inherited the same shelf from my mom. I want to use only the shelf for a corner wall in my living room, but the shelves don't wedge all the way in . Any suggestions?
