Re-purposed BBQ Pit Into a Planter

This old table top barbecue pit was rusting away in the garage. I picked it up with the intention of adding it to the metal recycling pile, but then inspiration struck! I decided I could make it into a quirky looking planter and I think I succeeded!
This was almost the condition I found it in. At this point I had only removed the handles and had begun scraping off the rust.
Here it is after spray painting the interior and metal portions of the handles with Rust-oleum "hammered" paint in a chocolate brown and the exterior in Rust-oleum American Accents Key lime gloss. I cleaned the chrome legs with Barkeepers Friend powdered cleanser. The wooden portion of the handles were soaked in boiled linseed oil, then coated several times with paste wax. This gave them a rich dark color, but kept the weather worn patina they had acquired. This also pretty much weather proofed the wood.
