DIY Easy Garden Obelisk

I needed something decorative in my garden and also a support to different plants. I love garden obelisks but the plans I found were rather complicated so we came up with a quick and easy one for about $20 at the time of building, costs may vary depending on your location. A step by step and a rough drawing are available on my website.

We used 2 x 2 pine lumber but you can also use a mix of the 2 x 2's and 1 x 2's for variation.
Cut 2 x 2's to size.
The side "rungs" are what can be cut from 1 x 2's making the obelisk a little less heavy but still very sturdy.
Build a ladder like structure
The rungs gradually get smaller at you go up the structure of the obelisk.
Use first ladder as template for second, makes it go faster.
Building the second side is faster as you have the first as a template.
Add side rungs to attach two ladders together
Set the two "ladders" side by side and attach the rungs, connecting the two sides together.
Paint or use protective tung oil. Place in garden! Enjoy
Paint with an exterior paint (protects from weather since this is pine and not cedar) or organic tung oil. Place in your garden and train a rose up it, use it as a tomato cage or even build an arbor with it!

I would love to make something like this to use as a serving station for parties...just add wood or glass tops. Hhmm....thanks.
