We recently had the opportunity to makeover an antique sewing table. Our client sent me this picture and asked if we could somehow make something out of it. My first thought, "heck no!", but I love a challenge so we took it, and this is what we did...
We went back and forth on the size of the piece and where it would work best in his house. It looked like it would work best in his entry way as a statement piece for his beautiful old home in Troy.
We ripped the top off and added a new black walnut top to it. John routered the edge to give it that beautiful fine finish. Black walnut is so beautiful! We didn't have to stain it or anything. Just sand it smooth and add a protective clear coat! Look how pretty that is!
John then added runners under the feet so it wouldn’t scratch their floor. We also painted all of the parts underneath black using a spray paint made for metal.
They also found parts that we knew wouldn’t be the original layout but we wanted to attach them to the base to give it a more industrial feel. We screwed them to the under side of the top in different areas to make each piece noticeable.
We were all so excited how this piece came out! What a fun and exciting transformation!
