I had the idea to make my own tray on a budget. Then I'd be able to customize the style to our decor, and also personalize it for myself with a monogram. I found a used cabinet door that was perfect for this project.
I found a shaker style cabinet door in the as-is section at IKEA. I thought the raised edge would make it perfect for upcycling into a tray. And the price was right.
I sanded it down slightly to clean up the chipped edges and to make sure the paint would adhere. I applied a coat of soft wax to add a beautiful sheen and make sure the surface would be durable.
I attached a pair of cabinet handles to each edge to carry the tray with.
It looks beautiful styled with some Mother's Day essentials. See more photos and detailed instructions here http://bit.ly/1U4W0eW and styling ideas here http://bit.ly/1VQjg04
