The moment I saw these Kimball filing cabinets at Goodwill, I knew I had to have them. Sure, it took six guys to lift one into a truck that I had to rent to haul them. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut and jump on a good deal.
I'm talking about a NINE FOOT DRESSER that rolls out like a dream!
I take back the sighs I gave when my too-frugal son used a metal filing cabinet he found on the curb for a dresser in college. Stephen was right; filing cabinets as dressers ROCK!
An attorney had just donated his office furniture to Goodwill, and these solid wood lateral filing cabinets were priced just $20 each!
There is a 9 ft topper solid piece that goes over it. Each drawer is lockable, but there was no key.
So inside I had to unscrew a lock and take it to a locksmith to have a key made. I was told that sometimes the key number is written on the back, so you may not have to do this. But it takes just a minute to unscrew the lock and pop it out.
The dressers came with the file folders and metal innards. I simply pulled them out manually and left in the front bar, but it can also be dismantled.

My only dilemma: how many drawers my husband got. He ended up with 3 😂.
Lateral filing cabinets are now my dream dresser. And the kids can't get in them 😍.
