Farmhouse Living Room Makeover With Before and Afters

We recently purchased a farmhouse on a small farm built in 1908 and the first room I wanted to tackle was the living room downstairs. I wanted to at least have one room close to being finished while we work on the rest of the house because I tend to have decorators ADD. What is that you ask? Well it goes a little something like this.
I start painting one room and then move to another before finishing. At the same time I start sanding floors and hanging new light fixtures. To put it simply, I never really finish one before starting another! Drives my husband crazy but that’s what marriage is right? Annoying that one special person for the rest of your life all while yelling “what?!” from the next room 15 times a day?
Here's the Living Room before. It was sad and outdated. The floors sadly can't be sanded down to restain due to age and how thin the wood is. We opted to paint it for now to save some money and might look at replacing them in a few years.
The wood floors were painted for a few reasons. Mainly that any major repairs aren’t in the budget and the wood on these floors had been sanded down so many times that they were too weak to withstand another sanding. I used the Behr porch and patio paint in “Pacific Fog”. It’s such a great neutral gray. Just make sure to follow the directions. I will do a blog post soon on how we painted the floors.

The rug was found at Rugs Usa and is called Bosphorus Floral Ornamental Rug.
We changed out the ceiling fan to this one found at Home Depot. It’s the Trudeau from the Home Decorators Collection and I now want one in every room!! Has so many blades and puts out so much air. The light is LED and requires no bulb! What?!! It also has a remote to control both the fan and light. I don’t like to admit my laziness but not having to get off the couch to turn off the light has my name all over it. It’s like they read my mind when making this fan.

The sofa came with many throw pillows but I felt the space needed some texture so I ordered a few ticking stripe pillow off Amazon.
I purchased some new furniture from Joss and Main and OH MY GOSH was I excited to finally have new furniture after 10 years! Hubby set a spending limit but we all know you can’t put a price on beauty and comfort. If you guys could relay that message again it may save us from marriage counseling. (kidding! sort of) However, the price on these was beyond reasonable. I compared so many slipcover sofa and chairs and I really am glad I ordered these.
