Turning an Old Window Into a Hanging Picture Frame.

I have several old windows of various sizes and shapes. I am always trying to find creative ways to use them. We recently removed a tapestry that we had hanging on our living room wall. I left the rod on the wall as I was planning to put something in the place of the tapestry. Searching through all of my treasures that I keep I came upon the old windows I have been saving. Because I love my hometown, Savannah, Ga, I decided that I was going to refurbish the window and put Savannah scenes in each window section. I love the outcome. The cost of the project was minimal as I already had most of the items I needed.
This is the window before anything was done to it. All of the panes are painted black. It was ugly, to say the least.
A closer look at the ugly.
My first step was to get the paint off of the panes. I used a stripper to get off the panes and then I sanded the frame. I sanded both front and back of the frame.
My next step was to paint the frame. As I looked at the frame I felt that something was missing. I decided to distress the frame to give it a little more personality. So sorry that I did not take a close up after the distressing was done. It can be seen on the final product.
Next step was to hang the finished product.
This and the following pictures show the total project completed and hung. I am so happy with how it turned out.
Enjoyed the project?

Have a question about this project?
how did you secure the paper/pictures to the glass. glue, tape?? I have one that i want to put humming bird cards on and cant figure how to secure the cards to the glass without it showing?
I seem to have missed the step between distressing and hanging the finished product. How did you mount your photos and what does the back look like?
