Need some inexpensive ways to store seeds for next year's garden? Here are some ideas using items you may already have laying around the house!
Not sure what to do with your leftover garden seeds? If stored properly, seeds can be saved from year to year. There's no fancy storage system required. In fact, what you have laying around the house can serve you will in storing seeds for next year's garden.
Option 1: Small hardware/jewelry organizer. A small plastic container divided into small compartments is perfect for organizing garden seeds. These little boxes can easily be found at any hardware or craft store. Label the top of each section so you remember what each compartment holds. These containers can easily be kept in the fridge or freezer if you need to keep seeds stored for longer periods of time.
Option 2: Recipe/File box: These plastic boxes are the perfect size for storing packets of seeds. I've been using one for years, and you can also snag dividers. I have my seeds divided by seasons, and this makes it easy when I'm figuring out what seeds I already have for the spring, summer, etc. and what I need to order. Keep the box in a cool, dry place to protect the seeds within.
Option 3: Paper Envelopes: The easiest and cheapest option is to simply keep seeds stored in paper envelopes. This is especially convenient if you're saving your own seeds. Once seeds are completely dried out, slide them into an envelope and seal. Store envelopes in a cool dry place until you're ready to use!
