I got these metal chairs last summer from a guy at a yard sale. He was asking 10.00 for all four chairs. But they had been left out in the weather and the bottoms were completely rusted out. I said I would pass but he begged me to take them for free. Oh geez, free couldn’t resist. I had started them last fall and sanded off most the rust and used my husbands car bondo to fill in the bottoms of the rockers. Only to start getting weather so they were shoved in my shop. I pulled them out for this season and went to work.
I sanded and wire brushed as much of the rust I could get off of them
The bondo was pretty bumpy so I sanding them as smooth as I could get them.
took a lot of sanding
I used some half cans of brown and black spray paint to go over bondo areas as a primer.
If anyone knows me I always snatch up paints at yard sales for cheap for my projects. So that is how I choose this color. Plus it matched some fabric that was super fun from a couple of years ago. Went to work spray painting. It took four can even though I had pre spray with Browns.
So now they needed cushion. I had egg shell foam from one of the beds. And my fun fabric.
I measured base of seats and back and cut foam
I cut out fabric 6 inches bigger all the way around and sewed up 3 sides inside out and turned them right side inserted foam.
I used a binding for strength on the back where the ties would be. I probably went over them with the machine 3 or 4 times.
I am not a seamstress but I did inherit a nice sewing machine.
They turned out nice.
I went ahead and sprayed them with waterproof coats to help durabily of the fabric.
I have no idea how long they will last but I will be happy with one season. We have already been enjoying them. Hope you enjo.

How many layers of foam did you use per bottom seat? Looks like four??
I love the fabric you used! Did you patch it together? Really like the top stitching, such a lovely touch.
