Upcycle an Outdated Side Table Into the Perfect Tea Time Spot

I always say that paint is powerful and when you are combining things that don't necessarily "match" it can work wonders to pull them together and create a set.

Take this outdated side table for instance. It was quite dated but still in great shape. Paired with a couple of child sized chairs and it could be the perfect set.

To make a set out of mis-matched items, start by painting them the same colour. I used Country Chic Paint in Vanilla Frosting for this set. Remember with a lighter coloured of paint you will usually need 2 to 3 coats.

I removed the chair seats to make the chairs easier to paint.

Those little shell details, when in their natural wood state, were quite... well ugly. But, highlighted with a little berry pink and then washed over in pale pink they become the stuff of mermaid loving kid's dreams.

To accentuate the shells and swirls, I used Country Chic Paint in Cranberry Sauce for the outlines and then dry brushed them with Vintage Cupcake.

To finish this tea time set off, the chairs needed a little recovering. They weren't in the best of shape (discoloured and cracked) so with a little padding and reclaimed fabric, they took on a totally new look.

You would never know that the little table and two chairs were not meant to be together. Painted up they look like they are perfectly matched and ready to host a little tea party.
