It had a small amount of water damage on the top. Nothing that could not be repaired.
Thrift Store Table DIY Makeover - With Only Paint!
I found this side table at my local thrift store. The price was $14.99. I thought it a bit high, but it was REAL wood and had very minimal damage. I was in need for a small table to go beside a wall by my fireplace, and this was the perfect size. With that being said, I grabbed it up! This is what it looked like:
I took my 220-grit sandpaper and lightly sanded the top to remove the damage. After sanding smooth, I cleaned the piece with a damp rag (just water). I allowed it to dry for about 30 minutes before I started painting. I decided to use white paint. My living room space needed some brightening up! I chose Dixie Belle Cotton for the table. I knew it would give it a fresh, crisp look!
I applied two coats, allowing about 2 hours for drying time between each coat.
Once the table dried overnight, I took my 220-grit sandpaper and lightly distressed around the edges and the drawer. I used a piece of tack paper to remove the sanding dust and applied one coat of Minwax Polycrylic in Satin as my topcoat. I had a pumpkin knob that I had left over from a previous project. I love these little knobs! They really go well with white. I found them on the D. Lawless Hardware website. They have such great prices for hardware!
Look how beautiful the table is now. This took very minimal time, and I only needed paint and a topcoat. Nothing fancy, but I still have a crisp, functional piece for my living room! Giving a piece of furniture a makeover does not have to be stressful or hard! Just start with what you feel comfortable with.
