Easy Fabric and Cork Coasters
These DIY coasters are so easy to make! I made this set using Christmas fabric to make a set of Christmas coasters, but it's so easy that you can make a set to match any holiday or decor.
materials for this project are easy to find. You'll want fabric in whatever design you want, self adhesive cork coasters, some nice, sharp scissors, and (optional) mod podge or fray check.
I like to cut the piece of fabric bigger than the coaster, then trim it down to size once it has been attached to the cork coaster. Much easier than trying to cut out the exact shape, and then trying to place it perfectly.
Fat Quarter bundles of fabric are a great way to purchase a small amount of different coordinating fabrics. I loved this ski-themed set of Christmas fabrics for my project.
The self adhesive coasters are really easy to use. You just peel off the sticker backing and stick your fabric to the cork coaster. I've used these coasters with cold drinks and hot beverages, and so far, after months of use, the adhesive still holds the fabric in place perfectly.
If you want to be extra careful, use fray check or some mod podge to seal the edges of the fabric to prevent fraying. But I'll note that after months of use, even the coasters that I didn't treat in this way aren't showing any unsightly fraying. So I'd say this is a completely optional step.
Here's a video showing how incredibly easy these are to make.
