Snowball and Pine Cone Garland
Garlands for every season are just fun! And making garlands is even better. I just love the creativity and unique decorations you can use on a garland for your mantel or Christmas tree.
This snowball and pine cone garland is a more rustic version for the holidays or winter months.
This project was dreamed up when I came across a bag of plush snowballs at a local boutique. I just loved them when I saw them but didn't have an idea what I was going to do with them at first.
I also loved that they were all different sizes.
You can find similar items online at Amazon, Etsy, or Walmart.
The only other items I needed to make the garland were:
- pine cones from my yard that I had already cleaned and baked for craft use
- jute twine
- my hot glue gun
- Glitter Mod Podge or paint for the pine cones (your choice)
First I added glitter Mod Podge to the outside edges of the pine cones for some extra sparkle. Next time I might use just white paint or a brighter glitter.
That part is totally up to you.
First I measured the length of my mantel and cut a length of jute twine to be longer than that to allow the garland to sag and have extra space on the entire strand once I hung it up.
Using my hot glue gun, I attached the snowballs and pinecones at different section down the length of the jute twine.
The hot glue takes a few extra seconds to stick to the felt snowballs so be patient and hold it in place a little longer against the just twine when making the garland.
At first I alternated the snowballs and the pine cones, but once I hung the strand up on the mantel I decided it needed more snowballs.
So, I randomly added extra snowballs to the garland wherever I felt like the space between the pine cones was too wide.
The snowballs stood out more on the whole length of the garland so they were the best choice to add more.
I like my first snowball and pine cone garland so much, that I ended up making two more strands for my rustic themed Christmas tree last year.
This year I plan to reuse all of the strands of snowball garland on the mantel for an all white themed mantel.
And I may just end up adding even more fun items to this garland or painting the pine cones.
This project was simple but very fun and the final result very festive and whimsical for the holidays. You can even leave this up all winter.
