DIY Candies & Garlands for Christmas & New Years
When in need of large, brightly colored holiday decorations- pool noodles to the rescue! And of course only $1 at Dollar Tree.
They make wonderful garlands and sweet candies to decorate indoors or out!
I asked my husband if he would cut some pool noodles for me and he had the great idea of attaching a CD to a drill and using it to cut the pieces quickly and easily. It did leave little dusty bits on the floor but he had fun so it was okay, lol.
So while he did that I grabbed some cording I had but you could use yarn, etc as well. I really like these knitters wool needles with the oversized eye as well.
I simply poked the needle through one side to the other. It was super easy!
It didn't take long before I had enough for a long garland and just tied each end off leaving a length so I could tie them where I wanted.
Here you can see I draped the garlands on the picket fence in my Christmas Candyland. You could use them anywhere- in the house, on a Christmas tree, etc. I also used some pieces on the Gingerbread House I made here.
This is the other decoration we made using pool noodles- fun sized candies which could be hung indoors or out. I think they'd look great on someone's front porch!
So while hubby had that CD drill going I said can I please have some longer chunks and yep he was happy to so I grabbed the colored electrical tapes I have and started wrapping them with candy stripes.
Next up was wrapping my candies with a piece of window insulation plastic which I bought from Dollar Tree- a little goes a long way! After rolling it in the plastic I taped it lengthwise. Since it's the shrink type plastic you can shrink the wrinkles out which I love.
Then using curling ribbon I tied the ends shut and curled it using my scissors.
You can see I used the blow dryer to smooth the plastic. Oh and I used a variety of colors of pool noodles and tape.
Hung from the trees it really added to my Candyland Christmas theme!
Using 5 pool noodles I got 3 long garlands and almost 40 candies so this was a cheap project!
