Oh how I love these Christmas Trees I've made over the years with pine cones. Make some of your own.
These trees are made from pine cone bracts carefully arranged around a Christmas tree form.
I've used the styrofoam forms, paper mache forms and then learned to make my own cones with posterboard. Making my own forms give me a lot more size flexability. It also saves me a bit of money.
For many years I enjoyed these trees in their natural state. Then I began experimenting with painting them.....and glittering them. Now I've done them in many colors and states of glitteriness. I made that word up!
The blog post with the tutorial is listed just below this post. For more pictures of various trees check HERE.

James W Douglas on May 30, 2016Totally Outstanding!!!!! I appreciate you sharing these projects very much. I usually save 4 to 5 bushels of pine cones every winter from my yard but never had anything in mind to do with them. I am going to share your blog with our local garden club for a group project this fall so they can use some of them up.

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
what type of pine cones did you use? I used the shorter version and they were pretty hard to get the bracts off of them.
Can you please tell me how you separated the cones or opened them to put on the form. Thank You
Betsy
