Gather 'Round the "Old Door" Table - A Magical Transformation!
Our dining space is long and narrow. I've been searching for a dining table to fit the awkward space and nothing in the marketplace seemed to work. Out in the yard, we had an old door affixed with construction adhesive to saw horses that worked for many years as a work table. The top was rustic and weathered, but its long, narrow dimensions could be the perfect fit. In its present condition, with clunky saw horse legs, it was an unstable mess. It needed a Magical Transformation to become a Mid-Century Modern Classic. And just in time for the Holidays...
This door once did duty as a church door in Northern New Mexico. It is 24" wide by 50" long. It weighs about 70 lbs. I think it might have been cut in half length-wise because it is very skinny.
It was performing duty as an outdoor work table with clunky saw horse legs.
Remove the table top from the metal saw horses.
Once the top is free from the saw horses, lay the door top-side down on the ground. It is ready to fasten the four (4) 3-Rod Hairpin Legs. Each leg will be placed in the corners of the table top.
The table top is VERY HEAVY. We need to select legs that can handle the weight.
For dining table height, we need legs that are 28" tall. Leg brackets with 3 Metal Rods are good for strength and support.

Each Metal Leg Plate Bracket should be positioned 2" from the corner of the table top.
Simple assembly. Done in a flash.
I added some felt cushion floor protectors to protect the hardwood floors. The table is heavy and the felt cushions help prevent the metal legs from denting the floor.

Legs beautifully crafted and worthy of the Rustic Charming Table Top.

Thanks William! I do love the look of the hairpin legs, but I have been even more impressed with how strong and sturdy the table is...no wobbles here.
