Laminate Flooring Update Using Water Based Concrete Stain
I have had issues with the laminate flooring that I put in a few years back. It was swelling in places where water had sat unnoticed. I decided to pull up the floor and stain the concrete.
The first thing is to get the concrete clean. That is the tough part, just hope that they were careful when doing Sheetrock work and painting prior to laying floor. Unfortunately I was not when I redid the walls in this room and there was much prep work.
I used a scraper and a vinegar, water, dawn solution to remove anything stuck to floor. Then mopped till I was no longer picking up dust or anything from floor.
Once I had the concrete clean I let it dry and swept it again.
I chose a coal semitransparent water based stain for the base color. I sprayed using a garden sprayer without diluting stain and used a cross cross overlapping pattern. I let that dry completely.
Next I mixed my own accent colors using acrylic paint and water matching the consistency of the stain I purchased. I used a metallic gun metal gray and more black. I sprayed lighter coats after the first one trying to blend any area that stuck out. I let dry overnight.
I used 2 coats of sealer allowing the first to dry completely before adding the second. I’m happy with how it turned out and was less expensive than other flooring options, just patience and a little hard work.
