Fall is the most beautiful time of the year! From the colors, to the smells, to the crisp, cool air....I love it all! Last October, we went to South Dakota, my home state, to visit family and see the Fall colors. I gathered lots of beautiful leaves, not knowing for sure what I was going to do with them.
I put them in between newspaper pages to get them home and once back home, I put a few heavy books on the newspaper for a few weeks and they came out looking like this
I have lots of branches in my back yard, that I save from doing yard work, for crafting. (The hubs thinks I'm crazy, but he just doesn't understand crafters :) )
I trimmed this one up a little to give it a cleaner appearance. I sprayed a clear sealer on it to preserve it and give it a little shine.
Now, this next step is a little time consuming, but very therapeutic I tied fishing line to the leaves, spacing them out in no particular way. I tried not to have the same types of leaves all together though. I strung about 6 to 8 leaves on about 7 different lines and then tied each line to the branch.
I found these little guys at the dollar store.
I hot glued the owls to the to the branch and I was done.
Here is a full view of my finished project.
I took it to work and hung it in my new office that I just totally remodeled. (I will post that project when I'm completely done!) Everyone keeps asking me where I got it
I've had such good feedback on it that I think I will do one with fake snow on the branches and snowflakes instead of leaves for winter and maybe another one for spring and summer with flowers and butterflies! The possibilities are endless! The whole project took about an hour and a half and only cost $2.00 (for the owls) Here's to Fall!

Have a question about this project?
You mention spraying the branch with clear sealer. Is that a Varethane-type spray?
