I actually made this as a Mother's Day gift but it certainly is perfect for an anytime gift too! We don't have children of our own, however, we do have Bandit. And we definitely love him like our child ! So, a gift from him to his grandmother is in order... A reclaimed wall plaque featuring Bandit with the word gramma.
I started by getting pictures of him in different poses with the letters G R A M M A. I printed the letters on card stock and folded them in half so they would stand easily, then placed them on his favorite chair and snapped the pictures. Now this proved challenging as he's definitely a fidgety kitty!
After some trial and error, I got the photos I needed and enhanced them in my trusty photo app, PicsArt. This is how they turned out
The materials I used for this project. .. a reclaimed wood plank, the finished pictures individually cut out, spray adhesive, tacky glue, E6000, rope or twine, eye hooks, foam brushes, paint- I used the color sand indoor matte, pawprint stickers, bumpers- I ran out of small round felt bumpers so I used double sided foam tape, small kitty buttons or charms for the corners and a picture hanging hook for the wall.
Lightly sand the wood plank if needed. I wanted a white washed look, so I mixed the paint with water in equal parts, brushed it on and wiped it with a cloth.
After it dried a bit, I brushed the back of the first picture 'G' with a light coat of tacky glue using a foam brush and applied it to the front side of the plank. Repeat with the remaining letters spelling Gramma. Allow to dry.
Next I applied little paw print stickers to each side
Next spray the entire plank with a coat of spray acrylic and allow to dry.
I decided to use permanent glue to attach the rope border (it's perfectly fine to use tacky glue instead ). Measure and cut the rope to fit all four sides of the front side of the plank. Apply a thin line of E6000 around the outer edge and gently press on the rope pieces, creating a border.
I found these kitty buttons at ACMoore for a quarter and thought they'd be perfect for the corners, again using E6000 to adhere them.
After that dried, I screwed in hooks on either side of the top of the plank, and tied on twine for hanging.
I thought an 'outake' picture would be fun, so I made a small collage, attached it to the back side and added two bumpers to the bottom corners.
We signed the back with a paint pen along with the date.
I really like how the plaque turned out and it made a wonderful gift!
I hope you enjoyed this project and hopefully inspired you to make one of your own. A friend from work is making one featuring her dog!
