My husband and I recently wanted to redo the back deck because the wood was starting to look old and dilapidated. After a plethora or estimates and approximates the cost literally "blew my hair off along with them asking for an arm and two legs" . The cost was just more than we wanted to spend . We decided to do it our selves.

The first step was the most sweat and tears, taking down the old deck. this required hammer, crow bar and a truck to haul the old wood away. Once we started the hardest part was the post that were cemented in the ground.

As you can see the wood was so old that the pic/spindles came off pretty easily. One of the contractors had informed us that the wood was so old and too dangerous to have guest residing on.

SAFETY! SAFETY !SAFETY! Once the deck was removed I immediately placed signs on the back door leading out stating; do not step!, because there was no step. and we locked the door. Then we had a plan in place to have some local concrete people to come out and to pour concrete. after pondering over what to do , We decided against doing wood again which is why we went with concrete.

okay so once the concrete was poured, we then had to paint. This is a pretty large area, because we wanted the concrete deck to match the around the pool area we painted, keeping in mind this paint dries fast! and once you open the can you have to move fast!

we covered the area around the pool too.

This was the area where the original deck used to be now there are cascading steps.

This is the paint used Behr deck over . This is a good product only had to paint one(1) coat. Blue tape used around any surfaces you don't want to get paint on, I taped all around the house and our pool.

This is the finished product, it is some work, but it is finished...tell me what you think. keeping in mind this was less than putting in another deck.....
