Indoor/outdoor Mini Plant Trellis
This mini trellis was kind of a spur of the moment project. I started some morning glory seeds indoors and they took off wonderfully. However, I realized I really didn’t have a spot for them outdoors. Therefore, I’m going to see how they do in my sunny windows with this pretty little trellis.
I think these would make sweet gifts too with a little plant buddy.
I started out with a rough pine board. I like pine because it’s easy to saw through.
I used a table saw to rip 1 inch pieces. The length is up to you. Mine are 38 inches long due to the size of the window it will be sitting in.
I took three of the 1 by 38 inch pieces and layer them out to the width I wanted the trellis. I then measured the ends and cut the end pieces to size. (8 in).
I used 1 inch screws to attach the end pieces to each long piece.
Now it’s time for the short pieces to make the herringbone pattern. I cut them 11 inches in length and then cut them in half again length wise. Because I’m attaching them to the face of the trellis as opposed to setting them in (which would take more precise measurements and cuts) I wanted to take some of the bulk off.
i Used 7 of the 11 inch split pieces for the herringbone part. I marked a halfway line then cut them at a 45 degree angle on the chop saw.
The 45 degree cuts fit perfectly to make that v shape.
I used i inch trim nails to secure them all the way up the ladder. I placed the first set on and then measured and spaced out the rest.
I decided not to stain it. I like it natural.
I think my morning glories are already smitten😊

Reminder... if you have cats or dogs, morning glories can make them sick. 😲

So after almost a year, how is the trellis doing? Do you have a pic of the climbing vines to share? What about legs - did you find yourself wishing it had crossbars to stand on, or does it do ok leaning against the window frame?
I like the natural pine, too, and such a striking design! Very well done. 👏
