Bar Cabinet Makeover | Gatsby Inspired
A friend, who is also a client, wanted me to refinish her very u inquest bar cabinet! This cabinet is the perfect size to hold all your har essentials! I did a previous piece which is where she got her inspiration for what she wanted done to her bar. Take a look!
Before - still adorable! But needed a makeover.
This is the project I had previously done, and she wanted the same colour scheme for her bar cabinet.
First I had everything primed in bin shellac base primer from zinsser.
Primer always looks so bad before it gets better! Haha
I taped off the top, since that pet is getting stained. And went ahead applying this charcoal peppered black/grey from behr paint.
Don’t ever ask me to wrap presents hahaha.
After the coats were applied I removed the plastic
After applying the final coat I added black wax from dixiebelle paint company to give it more depth.
After I applied a light early American stain to the top, and top coated with this wood wax.
And here you go! Final product! Replicating looks can be hard when your working with wood and paint. The every wood takes a stain different so remember to always give your pieces their own unique touch.

Lovely! I have an old telephone bench in the same design. I live in Japan too, isn't that crazy?

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
Just curious: did your friend ask you to replace the doors upside down?
IMO, the carved top has an elegance. Distressing the paint distracts from the carved wood. Did you paint the handles? I hope it’s just the lighting and not paint.
PS, please proof read before posting.
What was your process for stripping/sanding the wood detail around the top?
