Redo of Mid-Century Modern Half Bathroom
Our home was built in the 60's and is mid-century modern. As we update it we are making it, what I like to call it a Mid-Century Modern Cottage. Our half bath was dated, yet unique.
Here is a photo of bathroom before - blue laminate counter top with a unique rounded corner behind the toilet. We wanted to keep the cabinet, mirror, and the mid century medicine cabinet (that I loved).
Sink (before) very dated with "lovely" flowers - no, really very ugly flowers!
Outdated lighting, plain mirror and overhead cabinets (we wanted to keep those).
We built the new counter top from reclaimed wood, added a new sink, new faucet, new glass knobs, new glass tiles to accent the medicine cabinet
New lighting and reclaimed wood to frame out the mirror
We tiled the floor and used reclaimed wood for the baseboards to tie in the counter top and frame around the mirror. Replaced cabinet knobs with glass knobs. This room has a skylight too - so lots of light in here during the day.
We are so happy with the results, it was difficult to find the perfect marriage for mixing the old reclaimed wood with the modern glass tiles and mid-century medicine cabinet behind the sink.
What a difference! Can you see our unusual door in the mirror? It was cut in half to fit the small bathroom - very unique and fun to see the reaction on people's faces when they use it for the first time!
This is another photo of the split bathroom door!
