Wheelbarrow Fairy Garden
Quick and easy and if you use what you have, it's free. Somehow I managed to end up with 4 wheelbarrows. I've gotten some free ones and each time said well I really should make a fairy garden in one. Today is the day.
Drill some drain holes in the wheelbarrow and shovel in a bit of dirt
Round up some house structures- you could use an old birdhouse as-is or paint it. My granddaughter made a popsicle stick structure we used as well. Fences can be made purchased or come from an old dollhouse or made with sticks. Anything fairy sized works!
I placed this wheelbarrow fairy garden in my existing Fairy Forest.
You can see the mushrooms DIY HERE.
Here is the popsicle stick creation made by my granddaughter that seemed barn-like and I also had a cabin birdhouse to use.
I love moss because it does it's thing and I don't have to tend to it. I have plenty of moss in my yard now but I used to scoop little bits from the cracks in sidewalks. Look down- it's everywhere!
If you use grass you will have to snip it eventually as it grows.
Settle the moss or grass somewhere into your scene. I try to leave space for a path to doors. I use pea gravel for that....
Pea gravel...I may have borrowed a bit from other areas in my yard, lol. It doesn't take much- just cover the dirt and create your path from door to door.
I pick up alot of little things at yard sales and keep them in my fairy stash for days like this.
The rusty old watering can on the ground and the red lantern in the tree branches add to the look. I also like the tin can hanging over the scene.

This is so adorable! I want to be a little girl and play with something like this. Now, I just have to wait and see if I get granddaughters 🥰

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
Does the Moss eventually grow some sort of flowers?
I’m curious if the whole area is covered or protected in some way by hard rains? Or do you roll the wheelbarrow to a safe area during thunderstorms? I know you mentioned drain holes but i would think a heavy soaking rain would mess up such beautiful work. Is it glued or secured down in some way? What about high winds? Sorry...I LOVE LOVE LOVE this and want to do something similar so that’s why I’m asking
