Framed out with 2x4's.
Wainscoting across the front.
Piano hinge lid made from 3/4" plywood with bull nose molding attached to front.
Done.

Yes I'd like to do this. However I would like a freestanding not attached to the wall. Also, Put a draw in the middle with a metal pullout for bigger, heaver items. I would like to change the front to match the rest of the room.

I would love to do this! Would I extend a cold air return the same way as suggested for the heat vent?
