Giving an Old Letter Holder New Life.

I was looking for a small project to fill in some time and this was perfect.
I found this gem in the bottom of a box with similar items at the local op shop. It was coated with the original stain and varnish. There were small hooks on the bottom and a thin metal rooster on the top.
I removed the hooks and metal rooster. I started to sand off the old stain and varnish, first with 80 grit sandpaper and then I went over it with 240 git to make the surface smooth and ready for painting.
I painted the piece with 2 coats of Annie Sloan pure white chalk paint, sanding with 400 grit sand paper between coats. When I was happy the surface was smooth, I started to distress with 240 grit sandpaper.
Once distressed, I sealed it with Annie Sloan clear wax. Keeping the old with the new, I replaced the metal rooster and hooks. (The hooks are not replaced in this photo) Simple, enjoyable project.
