This Was a Roadside Table. Revamped to a Functional Piece

My first painted furniture project. I started without any idea of how I wanted this to look. Made my decisions as I worked on the piece and I'm very pleased with my results.
I spent a few hours sanding off the old dark finish.
And more sanding....
And yet more sanding,
I had decided that I wanted to keep the nicely distressed top in a dark walnut stain, but I wanted to add some colour too. So I mixed up a small batch of home made chalk paint using a bit of leftover colour from another project.
Next I decided that the paint was too bright, so using a dark gel walnut colour is started to age the blue paint.
The gel stain really brought out the destressed marks on this piece.
Now that I had it the colour aged I stained the top.
From junk to practical. This is the first piece of furniture I painted and aged this way. I'm so pleased with the result, I'm starting to look at all the antique furniture I have and planning my next painted furniture project!

That's what happens when you have success on the first try, that paint brush will be smoking. This piece really looks good and solid.
