Sea Glass in the Garden
Lately i have been seeing where designers and decorators are fabricating expensive metal partitions with glass panels at the top of a big pony wall to have separation yet you still have visibility!
If you want to remove a wall, why not build in a series of windows for that effect? You could brace the ceiling and put in headers between the spaces just like you would build in a window.
Finally found a pic of one of my first window redo's This is faux stained glass...
You can turn windows into tables. You can also add faux stain glass, glue dollar tree glass rocks or marbles or photos to them and make them wall art.
Remove the glass. Have a glass company cut a piece of mirror to fit.
I think my favorite use for old Windows is where they put a beautiful landscape picture in the old window to make it look like they have a window in a wall where there isn't one, like over the sink in the kitchen, the living room, etc.. I think that it really adds to a room when you can add something like that to an inner room with no windows.
How about a Trompe l'oeil behind the frame?

Right now I'm saving old 2, 4 and 6 pane windows to make a greenhouse. But in the past I have painted them to match room and seasonal decor. The pic is one I did for my youngest daughter's room when.
Old windows make the perfect picture frames, I like to add a few going up the stairs with individuals in between like a window into our lives 🤗
I like the idea of a garden trellis with old windows or even making a room divider using old windows. There are so many things you can do, just go for it !!!
I used old windows to display photos and other notes at both of my daughters' wedding receptions. I will have to find a pic; we added scrapbook paper to 3 panes with photos, the special date and their names, etc. This could be used in your home to showcase family, a special trip or event and more. I am planning to make a faux window, backlit and trimmed out for my dark windowless basement family room using an old window also.. Lighten up a Dark Hallway With a "new" Window
Hello fellow Hometalker! One of my favorite ideas (and the reason why I have a bunch of windows in my garage lol) is to hang them from my deck to give a bit of privacy on the front side yet allow me to still enjoy the outdoors. Kind of like being indoors yet so obviously not!
There are so many ideas out there to decorate with old windows that I'm sure you're going to receive tons of ideas from asking the question. Also the website here at Hometalk has lots- just search the keywords above in the upper left to "Find your next project!"
Old windows are so easy to locate anymore- yard sales, junk shops, craigslist are all great places to find them for cheap.
Hope to see you post whatever you decide to do!

I like so many others used an old window to make a mirrored wall hanging. It was a fun project.
Here is a great site for many uses www.funkyjunkinteriors.net/2013/02/sns-175-what-to-do-with-old-windows.html
Hi! One plan I have for the future is to put an old quilt remnant behind an old window. Like this: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/223843043953220699/
I absolutely love old windows and doors. I've found some really unique ones at building supply salvage yards off really old buildings. I think preserving the patina with a matte clear coat and hanging horizontally on the wall is a great way to honor the craftsmanship. I sometimes hang little artsy items in the opening where the glass used to be.
I'm saving old windows to incorporate into the secret garden that I'm working on in my backyard. I would like to paint designs using glass paint then hang them as part of a fence that I plan on creating with pallets.
Well, first my cell phone battery died, then it was suppertime for my dogs. Now let's see if I can complete one answer. I'm thinking of a talk, narrow, old window, like a 3 by 2 double hung window but almost any size would adjust to this off-the-wall idea.(Goodness, I love punning!) Remove the glass and putty. Refinish the old window with a wood stain that would coordinate with your home. Also buy and finish with the same stain 4 or 6 spindles for stairs. You'll have a better idea of the 4 or 6 after you've read the directions and made some preliminary decisions, and also depending on the weight of the window you select. Also buy 4 or 6 double ended wood screws. The spindles will be table legs, the double ended wood screws will connect the legs to the table. One last decision. How would you like to replace the glass? Clear safety glass? Clear plexiglass? Smoked plexiglass? Patterned plexiglass? Etched glass? (You will be doing the etching as well if you choose this option.) One last option: instead of installing the window permanently to the legs, you could choose to give the new table a bottom under the window. In here you could put your choice of pretty stones, small collectibles, even antique toy soldiers reenacting the battle of your choice, if you're a history buff. The bottom could also be bordered by a tiny string of lights that could make pretty crystals inside the window/table glisten and refract the lights. If I were picking, I'd opt for safety glass in the window, clear plexiglass for the table bottom, sparkling glass or plastic crystals inside and tiny decorative strings of lights to highlight your spectacular creation.
Maybe add legs to back on hinges with chains at center to make n eisle type design add a platform or 3 or ? To have different tiers, then place by mailbox or wherever with some plants on the different tiers, then u can look through the window of ur outdoor home!! Lol
