Finally Taking the Plunge With My China Cabinet Makeover !

After two years of thinking about painting my dining room furniture, I have finally taken the plunge thanks to seeing many beautiful posts on Hometalk and a cold snowy day in NJ !

I did go ahead and paint the legs on my dining room table, but left the top as is for contrast. I think it stands out much nicer now on our somewhat dark, but pretty dining room rug.

The china cabinet has a lot of potential, but I am thinking of keep the top of the bottom part the natural brown and doing a contrast with the paint I chose.

I chose a Valspar Furniture Paint - they now have a whole line of chalk paint, blackboard paint, furniture and cabinet paint. I bought the "base paint" and added a color - Filtered Shade - turns out to be a lovely dove grey kind of color. Did use two coats on the table legs, very pleased with the result, this paint has a kind of sheen to it, so I think better than chalk paint and then the extra job of waxing.

I am open to ideas on the china cabinet. Because of the heaviness of the top part of the cabinet, that is part of my decision to leave the top of the drawers natural and paint as it is. The shelves do not come out, we have tried many times and many different ways, but sure I can still do a good job despite all of this. I will take doors out, hardware off of course.

Not sure which chairs to use - I have these old parsons chairs or I have some wooden chairs that I painted with ASCP in a Robins Egg blue and waxed, now I am thinking I will paint the grey maybe. All open to discussion - not looking to buy any new stuff only to refresh.

Thanks for any comments :)

This is the before of the table with the dark legs, as you can see they did not show on the carpet.
Close up of the table legs.  There is detail on them, which I could highlight later with a different color to maybe match the china cabinet.
Table after painting.  I think you will agree it already looks better.
Underneath of table.
Table with chairs around - not sure if I will keep these chairs or use the wooden chairs I have, repainted of course.  You can see the china cabinet in the background.
This is chair I painted with Annie Sloan Robins Egg and waxed.
This is the china cabinet.  I might have to keep the hardware and just paint as the two handles in the middle of the cabinet do not come off - there is a writing desk there and there is no way to remove them without damaging the furniture.
Empty cabinet.
